“Today on the tour bus we woke up Shay, slapping his face with a condom full of white shampoo. This is when adventure turns into misadventure!”
Welcome to the weird world of Borgore. Currently under the kosh of a schedule more rampant than all of his basslines put together, right now he’s trucking across the US with a full tour bus entourage, blasting several shade of sonic shizzle out of every state that will let him, his shampoo-filled johnnies and his crew through.
He’s so in demand, his manager has given us just two minutes AIM time with him. Just enough time to ask about his Buygore label’s first full length compilation – Borgore’s Misadventures In Dubstep. Available this week, it’s riddled with massive wobblers and screamers like this….
16 tracks in total, each one ridiculously bottom heavy and part-ready with tracks from the likes of Tombs, Document One, Bare and xKore. Close your eyes, imagine the pole dancers and it’s like he’s DJing in your lugholes. Not really. But it’s as close as you’re going to get without hitting the club. And it acts as a rather neat snapshot of where both Borgore and his label are at right now. When asked how he might convince you to buy it, however, he sagely reasons “you’re a grown man/woman, you must learn to be assertive and make decision.”
Back to the tour bus and we learn Borgore’s something of a jazz fan. Why not? What could possibly be a better soundtrack for his fine line of tour bus japery? Before he chucks us off AIM for a more important caller, we tackle him on this rather unlikely musical love.
“My mom thought it will be cool to brag to her friends that her five year old got accepted to this super hard to get into private arts school,” he tells us. “She didn’t know it’s going to backfire at her and I will actually end up a musician!”
A musician and a jazz lover. Our time with Borgore is over. But not before we squeezed three recommended jazz players to start your very own misadventures to…
John Coltrane – Giant Steps
“This is a school in progressive harmony.”
“Doing covers of stuff like Radiohead on his albums makes him an easy entrance point for someone not from jazz. Plus he’s probably the craziest pianist in the world!”
“There’s so much stuff I can say about this man. I can do a 15 minute class about him!”
Shame we only had two minutes….
