Clear any plans you have for this evening and tune into D&BTV at 7pm as DJ history will officially be made. After six weeks of rounds and votes, the public has chosen three finalists to battle it out tonight live in the D&BTV studios.
The winner, just in case you didn’t know, will get to represent Drum&BassArena at Glade Festival. Arguably Blighty’s most authentic rave-up, Glade represents the best in forward-thinking electronic music, presenting it in the most free-spirited, friendliest package you can possibly get.
The festival takes place between June 14-17. But before then YOU need to decide which one of these dedicated DJs are going to represent!
Kicking off at 7pm, DJ Error, Phase 2 and Tensor will all battle it out with an hour each. The final votes will be counted as the mighty Stanza closes the show.
Razor sharp talent. A prize of a lifetime. Non-stop D&B. Everyone wins tonight. See you there! D&BTV
Error is Richmond-based and has been mixing for four years. Unlike a lot of DJs, he started off digitally but has since move into more traditional DJ styles and started brandishing the vinyls as well as digital.
“I got the best of both worlds,” he tells us. “There’s always two tunes rolling and one ready to go. There’s always something going on.”
He doesn’t need to tell us. His hour long mix is an exemplary lesson in wide-armed D&B DJing with well-chosen classics weaved in and out of upfront bangers. It’s a style that goes down well at his regular gigs at Vibes, Nu:Era and Future:Technology.
“I’m just practicing and practicing right now,” he tells us, just hours after being told he’s in the final three. “I need to work out the best tunes I can take down and smash it. I just want to say thanks to everyone who’s voted for me to get this far!”
Two heads are better than one? Only time will tell. But we can safely say these cats are definitely ‘heads’ – they know their D&B inside out, as reflected in their deep rolling style. Serving up monstrously sonorous basslines, Guy and Josh’s style is one of understated grooves. Yet shockingly they weren’t too happy with their last D&BTV set!
“We were a bit unprepared last time to be honest, looking back I’m not too happy with some of the tunes we picked,” says Guys. “It’s all about the energy and I think we’ve got headroom for much more of that.”
Getting through to the final three is no easy feat; if they’ve got even more potential then we could be in for a treat. Previous guests at London’s Egg nightclub and Union student events, they’re determined to take it to the next level.
“A lot of our gigs have been to a student crowd,” says Guy. “We’re itching to play to a proper D&B crowd!”
Well playing on D&BTV is the perfect place to start!
Quite possibly the bounciest finalist to get through – Tensor doesn’t seem to stop moving as he switches through the glitches.
“Haha, yeah, I love it,” he grins. “Gun fingers to the crowd and everything.”
An attitude like that will take you far. But you’ve got have the skills to back them up. Something he’s already proved at a local competition in Reading where he got play alongside DJ Marky. For tonight’s show, he’s already got a few specials planned.
“Yeah, there’s a couple of tricks up my sleeve,” he lets on. “I’ve got to play the best set of my life haven’t I?”
We don’t really need to answer that question, do we? Tune in and see for yourselves!
