Positive Vibes: Netsky

It’s Tuesday: Scientifically proven as THE most dreary, miserable day of the week. Do not panic! We’ve got two ways you can switch this blues-day on its grumpy little head….

One: Immerse yourself in three moments of pure musical happiness with Netsky’s Positive Vibes selection below.
Two: Check out Netsky’s new album

Out this week 2 is the brightest, boldest project the Belgian 23 year old has ever delivered. 15 tracks of sheer euphoric uptempo gold. With his trademark funk and vibrant flare in full check, it’s the most expansive project too with shades of other styles such as dubstep, house and raw glitchy funk thrown in for added texture. Written with his monstrous live show in mind, its full of great instrumentation, including Netsky playing slap bass solos. We gave him a call; seems he’s pretty happy with it.

“Very happy,” he grins. “On the first album I only had about six or seven months to get everything together. But for this album I’ve had about two years! I’ve had a lot of time to really get used to the tracks and have more peace of mind with them. I’ve had a lot more time to get some amazing people together; I’ve worked with some amazing vocalists and had time to actually get in the studio with them instead of working over the internet. It’s been a very cool experience!”

With the full blessing from Radio1’s key prime-time drum & bass ambassador Zane Lowe on his last two singles, things couldn’t be cooler for Netsky right now. Checked his live show yet? You really should…

“We’ve been working on it for about a year now,” he explains. “I just saw a lot of DJs and electronic acts doing these visual shows with loads of great stuff on their controllers. I wanted to do something too, but wasn’t sure what. Then I got the opportunity to play on bigger stages across Europe and every time I’m on a big stage I see a lot of empty space not being utilised. So I looked into a live band. I think the band was a big influence on the album too; to have a lot of instruments on there and make something very musical and compatible to a live set up.

Netsky’s Positive Vibes:

Fat Freddy’s Drop – Flashback

“My favourite band ever! Joe Dukie’s voice is one of the best tunes I think I’ve ever heard! The last LP is just incredible for positive vibes. Flashback was one of the first tunes of theirs I ever heard. It’s such a feel good tune for me! I’ve seen them live once but it was only for half an hour. I’ve met them a few times but for some reason we seem to play at the same time at festivals on different stages. The most of their live show I’ve seen has been about half an hour… I think they only did two or three tunes in that half hour. They just jam out. It’s so good!”

The Streets – Weak Become Heroes (Ashley Beedle Remix)

“I’ve been listening to this a lot recently. This is one of the first tunes that really got me into piano house and deep house. It’s so amazing. The vocal is really strong too. What more can I say? If you haven’t checked this out, I’d suggest you do today… Guaranteed positive vibes.”

Burial – Archangel

“This isn’t like an upbeat, really super positive thing… But I love it! It’s so deep. When I listen to this, I find I’m not thinking about anything else. That’s a really good way to lose any negative thoughts or feelings, which has to be positive right?”

2 is out right now! Listen and download right here.
