Win Pioneer DJ gear! Have YOU got the skills?

Hey DJs!

Fancy upgrading your set-up?

Drum&BassArena have teamed up with leading DJ manufacturer Pioneer to host a very exciting competition: We’ve got a DJM-T1 mixer and three pairs of HDJ-2000 headphones to give away!

But we’re not giving them away easily. Oh no. You need serious skills to get your hands on this type of gear. Think you’ve got what it takes? Then read on…

The latest addition to Pioneer’s flagship DJM mixer family has inherited the sound quality design of Pioneer’s industry-leading DJM-900 and DJM-2000. A two-channel badboy, it’s the first Traktor certified mixer that’s designed specifically for the mixing software. A mixer, controller and audio interface all-in-one, it welcomes you to a new world of creative possibilities.

See here to check out the DJM-T1 in action with the scratch-handy DJ Fu.

“It’s everything you’d expect from Pioneer,” explains Fu. “Great build quality, great sound quality and it really opens Traktor to its true potential. I love the way you can process all the effects through Traktor. They’re assignable to all the knobs on the mixer. Basically YOU tell the mixer what you want to do! There’s a preset layout but if you want to get geeky then you can dive in deep and tailor it totally to your set-up.”

Even taking a 20 second break from mixing duties to fiddle around with the software effects can ruin your flow, but with the DJM-T1 you can assign it all ready and never take your eyes off the mixer.

“All the options are right in front of you,” Fu continues. “You can hide your computer away and do your set straight off the mixer and properly connect with the crowd.”

With a robust crossfader designed with scratching in mind, the DJM-T1 comes with essential adjustments for lag, tension, curve and reverse allowing you to tweak it to your own personally perfect settings.

There’s more… We’ve also got three pairs of HDJ-2000 headphones to give away.

Designed for multiple environments, the HDJ-2000s are all about clarity, clear separation and comfort. Armed with a capacity of 3,500 mW distortion is a worry of the past, and with the 50mm driver units and high flux magnets mean they’re just as suited to the studio as they are the club.

With a stereo/mono function, hard-wearing build and simple folding structure they more than live up to any expectations. Shucks, they even boast a heat-sensitive, low rebound memory foam under the leather ear-cushions to ensure there’s no fatigue whatsoever. Your ears will thank you for this for many years to come.

Okay cool, so how do YOU get your hands on any of this?

Simple. Make us a 30 minute mix. Make sure it’s the best you can possibly create… And make sure it’s with us by Friday February 22.

The winner will bag themselves the DJM-T1 and a profile interview on Drum&BassArenaBlog while three runners up with be the proud owners of a pair of HDJ-2000s. Here are the essentials…

PLEASE NOTE THIS COMPETITION IS NOW CLOSED.

HOW TO ENTER:

Upload your mix to Soundcloud. Name it Drum&BassArena & Pioneer DJ Competition 2013, include the tracklist and the image at the top of this post. Email the link to comps@breakbeat.co.uk

RULES:

Mixes will be judged on creative flare, technical skill, dynamics and overall presentation.

The mix must be 30mins long: Anything under 26mins and over 31mins will be instantly disqualified.

This competition is open to European residents only. You must have a European address to qualify.

No MCs please: we’re just looking for DJ skills on this one.

Only D&B: Pioneer kit is great for mixing any genres but as we’re Drum&BassArena only drum & bass mixes are acceptable (brief dips into other tempos are fine but the main body needs to be around 170bpm)

Any mixes submitted after 9am February 22 won’t be counted.

Winners will be announced on March 4 in our Monday newsletter

Due to the popularity of this competition we will not be able to respond to every entrant. If you’re concerned your mix link hasn’t been received then email comps@breakbeat.co.uk  with the heading ‘received mix?’ and we’ll let you know.

I’m from USA but what’s the reason on only letting European residents enter?

    • dave says:

Thanks for your comment Matt. This competition is run with Pioneer Europe and they have stipulated that it is open to European residents only.

      • Matt B says:

Thank you for the reply. That is definitely a bummer but oh well, good luck to everybody that can enter.

      • DJ says:

This is BS….. They’re always trying to exclude Americans cuz they know we rock the shit out.

        • Brad says:

More than likely they’re giving a 220v set away, i seem to believe the US uses 110v right?

  2. Paulo says:

when there is a Genre for Electro, Progressive ? im from Zurich, Best Regards

    • dave says:

Hi Paulo. I’m afraid this is a drum & bass only competition as we’re a drum & bass website. Sorry!

  3. peter says:

Is it possible to use older tracks too?

  4. Benjamin says:

If this really is just DnB pleas define it a little more because Dropstep and Drumstep do have a DnB beat (170BPM)

    • dave says:

Hi Ben. The mixes have to be around 170bpm – whether that’s at halfstep tempo, drumstep or dropstep (that’s a new one!) it’s up to you. Creativity, character, skill and selection should be your main focuses for this competition – not sub genres. The only reason we’ve stipulated D&B is because if we opened it out to every dance music genre we’d get flooded with millions of entries: and why not? The prizes are amazing! We’re a drum & bass site so let’s keep it D&B. Thanks! Dave

  5. C-Beats says:

Can I do a hardcore/jungle mix or purely up to date jump up d&b

    • dave says:

A hardcore/jungle mix is fine. There’s no mention in the rules about it being up to date D&B. The only stipulation is that it’s not an unrelated genre to D&B. EG – electro, garage etc. Thanks! Dave

  6. Chris says:

Hello, I have uploaded a Drum & Bass mix to soundcloud as you stated, however soundcloud have said I am infringing on copyright laws and have deleted the mix? can i upload it to mixcloud or another website that it wont get deleted from?

    • dave says:

Ah yes, other entrants have experienced this too. Please use Mixcloud and follow the same steps. Thanks Chris!

  7. -IQ- says:

If you have a problem with Soundcloud, get creative with the intro…they use something similar to Shazam to check the start of tracks ;-)

Damnnn, giving away my trade secrets!!!

  8. D-Soul says:

Hi ! Is it possible to participate for non Europe residents, but with confirmed and veryfied address in Berlin (so the winner could send the price to this address) ?
    Thanks :)

  9. Thomas says:

In the rules it says no MC’s, does this also mean no use of songs which include MC’s?

    • dave says:

No, tunes with MCs are absolutely fine. We just want to hear wicked mixing skills in this competition – sometimes an MC (as much as we love them!) can take the attention away from a DJ’s mixing ability. Cheers! Dave

  10. Bollins says:

The received mix email isn’t working properly

  11. Joe Walsh says:

  12. Buster says:

  13. dave says:

Hi everyone. If you’ve had a bounceback/error message when submitting your mix please resend! (Due to the amount of entries our mailbox was full!)
